Information:
Welcome to the NMU Cycling Club’s website.
We are part of the NCCA (National Collegiate
Cycling Conference) in the MWCCC (Midwest
Collegiate Cycling Conference). The team is
still relatively new, with only one year of
collegiate racing under our belt (2005/2006
school year). The team races mountain bikes
in the fall and road bikes in the spring.
The road race season has just started with
the first race on Feb. 24/25th in Ohio. Be
sure to check our main page for updates and
race reports.

01. Who can race?
Any NMU student (male or female). Each
member must supply their own bike, helmet
and PEIF pass. Members do not need to have
any prior racing experience.
02. When do we race?
There is two seasons in collegiate bicycle
racing. The first season is mountain
biking, which begins in late August and runs
into September. The second season is road
biking and begins late February and goes
until mid-April. Nationals, for road, is
usually held in early May.
03. Where do we race?
We race in any of six states
in our conference (MI, WI, IL, MO, IN, OH).
04. When are practices?
Our current practices are every Mondays and
Thursdays 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Saturday at
10:00 am in the cycling room at the PEIF.
There is also open spin time on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Anyone is
allowed to drop in to a practice, you may
bring your own bike and trainer or use one
provided by the PEIF. Bike shoes are allowed
to be used with the stationary bikes,
however, changing the pedals is NOT allowed.
Other rides will be posted on our
message board.
05. Do I need to show up to practice?
Attendance at practice is not mandatory, we
have a “do as much or as little” attitude.
You get out of it what you put in.
06. How do we travel?
We decide our travel at the meeting
before each race. Usually we will take a few
cars, depending on the amount of people
participating that weekend. Our
weekend traveler will be responsible for
finding the suitable sleeping and traveling
arrangements. Each member will pay a flat
fee for gas, travel and hotel and be
expected to bring extra money for food and
racing fees. Most trips are 4 to 10 hours,
so the team will leave on Friday and return
sometime Sunday. All members will make it
back for Monday classes! :)
07. How much money does it cost to
join?
For new members it is $75, this includes a
jersey. Returning members pay $20 per
season, which helps cover team costs.
08. How do you order NMU cycling gear?
All of the items available to order can be
found on the gear page. Instructions for
ordering and pricing are listed below the
items. |
